Welcome to Fanelia Online, the domain of Christopher Baar. Here is where I host my projects, and my pictures. I'm currently a Senior at Florida Atlantic University. In fact, my reason for rewriting my site's main page is due to an assignment I have in one of my classes. Which is great, since I haven't updated my main page since 2005. I also got the impetus to add a few more items to my site as well. I refer to myself as the quintessential geek. Why? Other than seeking a Computer Science degree from my college, I build my own computers, and can generally figure out what's wrong with one. Also, my interests lie in gaming for various consoles, computer, and tabletop. I've even been known to do the occasional live-action bit. I'm also a big fan of anime and manga, and while I stil don't like the term otaku, due to it's negative connotations in Japanese, I don't mind it so much, as we have seem to adapted it to English, just like many other words we use on a regular basis. Due to my interests in anime, manga, and video games (of which a large portion come from Japan), I've been learning Japanese, as well. ええ、日本語を少し話せる。でも、まだ上手じゃないよ。 I also have an interest in Japanese martial arts, especially kenjutsu, the art of Japanese swordsmanship. While I lived in Chicago, I had the opportunity to take an excellent Kenjutsu/Kendo/Iaido class at the Japanese Culture Center. Unfortunately, I haven't found a comparable dojo down here in Florida just yet. At least, one close to where I live. On the right hand side of the page, you can see the various menus I've set up. The top one relates to my personal projects I host on this site. Final Fantasy Gaming is my attempt to take all the material from all the Final Fantasy Games, and codify it into rules to use with various tabletop RPGs, like Dungeons & Dragons and GURPS. Shinkihadou, (which in Japanese means true radiant wave) is a small game I created using the XNA toolkit for my Game Programming class I had at FAU. The second one relates to the clubs I belong to. JAPC, Japanese Animation People in Chicago, is a club I helped found along with a few of my friends. It has been running for quite a few years now, and to my knowledge is still the only independant anime club in Chicago. Absolute Anime is one of the two anime clubs I belong to down here in Florida. We meet once a month and generally watch the latest stuff that's coming out from Japan. Finally, MangAnime depot is another club I belong to, and the first one I found after moving back here. They are a bit free-from (disorganzed ^_^) but a very fun group of people to hang out with. We watch basically whatever we decide at the time. Sometimes we actually try to finish a series. We haven't succeeded yet. Finally, you'll find my photo galleries. These are just some pics that I've taken, and felt like sharing. Enjoy your stay, and take a look around. You might find something interesting! Chris - vanslanzardefanel@faneliaonline.net |
